References - Day Care

Maralyn is Pack Leader at the Hound Dog Hotel. Whether it is Doggy Day Care, or 24/7 home-from-home Dog Boarding, Maralyn creates a calm and well-balanced pack setting where dogs thrive. This translates to the dogs when they go home too, as noted by owners in these references!

Judy about DARWIN:

I rescued Darwin my Border Collie last year.

He had been kept in a yard, rarely went out for walks and was only allowed in the house when the family went to bed and was put out in the yard before they woke up.

He was very depressed, unable to socialise and was very difficult on walks. I felt at a loss - then I found Maralyn and her doggy hotel.

Maralyn has worked so well with him - he loves her and his Mondays and Wednesdays. He is now a very sociable dog. He loves playing and gets really good food and snacks then rests as he is so active during the day.

I will never be able to thank Maralyn enough for virtually saving my beautiful dog. She just understands dogs.

2023

Darwin in a quiet moment - when he’s not after a toy! He’s a lovely dog and terrific to see him having grown in confidence and learning to play and be part of the pack

Jackie & Keith about MAISEY:

Maisey’s a bundle of love & energy. She’s super active and adores playing with the big guys - often on her back legs boxing them on the head!

We Are privileged to have our "Maisey" at the Hound Dog Hotel’s day care. Maralyn as owner provides care, attention, activities - and the healthy meals are second to none. On the way in the car to the Hound Dog Hotel Maisey starts to react three blocks away and looks super excited as Maralyn greets her.

Maisey is exceptionally energetic and hard to tire out, but when she comes home after her days socialising, playing and exercising at the Hound Dog Hotel, she is plum tuckered out!

We cannot speak highly enough of Maralyn -  her devoted care (& cleanliness of the HDH) are just what we want with fees ridiculously low for the whole package.

Cheers!   2023

Jan about HONEY:

Just by chance I heard about the Hound Dog Hotel (at Green Point) from talking to a lady who told me she takes her dog there to give her some free time and so her dog can play with other well behaved dogs.

I telephoned for more information, Maralyn told me:

~All dogs are screened for suitability

~Only 4-6 dogs

~Supervised by her at all times

~She provides entertainment for the ‘pack’

~May get taken on short walks

~They get delicious and suitable meals provided

~Cared for in a safe and clean environment

So I booked in my 12 months old cavoodle Honey as needed to be socialised with other dogs.

Honey’s now a regular and when we arrive she’s so excited she leads me to the front door to meet her friends. After her days with Maralyn she has her dinner - then sleeps for at least two hours!

Maralyn is a very experienced dog owner herself and has had many years training and looking after dogs. She has helped Honey & me immensely. I have no hesitation in recommending the Hound Dog Hotel. 2023

Honey is super energetic & manages to get all the balls most of the time!

Tara about BIKKIE:

Bikkie has been going to Hound Dog Hotel for a few months now and he and I love it.

We started at HDH as he was a very anxious dog that had been bitten and was fearful of large dogs. Since going, his confidence has risen and his fears lowered. He has learnt how to socialise, rest and eat with other dogs. Which was something he struggled with before.

We are so grateful that we found HDH as it has changed Bikkie and our lives for the better. He even runs in now and doesn't look back.

I can't recommend this doggie day care enough. Maralyn and Gail are so caring and passionate about dogs and their health and well-being. This is shown through the healthy food they feed them, the training they give them and the unconditional love they show them.

Niamh about BILLIE:

I send Billie to Hound Dog Hotel because it provides her with the structure and mental stimulation she needs to thrive!!

Gail provides a structure and routine so the dogs know what to expect, which minimizes their anxiety. She interacts with the dogs so that they don’t get bored. It’s also a very calm environment - less dogs means it’s less likely that they’ll become overwhelmed! Also Gail’s training with Billie has improved her patience and recall.

Hound Dog Hotel lets you know about potential health concerns they’ve noticed - recently Gail noticed that our dog might have an infection and sure enough, we took her to the vet and she had a UTI!

I recommend Hound Dog Hotel to anyone whose dogs thrive in a structured and predictable environment. It’s a similar cost to other daycares that don’t provide nearly as much support, supervision, and care as Hound Dog Hotel does.

The most important thing to know about Hound Dog Hotel is that Gail cares so much about the dogs and you will always feel at ease leaving your pups with her. She is a lovely person and has some great knowledge about dogs!!

Billie the bubbly Border Colle!

Julie about LAILA:

Laughing Laila, one of the cheeky Cavoodle Crew

Laila certainly has gained her confidence around other dogs. I see it when we are out walking too.

I originally sent Laila to daycare at Hound Dog Hotel as I was headed overseas for an extended time and wanted her to have additional company while I was away alongside her continued care in the family home.

As this is our first experience with a Doggy Day Care, I feel like I couldn’t have found a better care service. I’m very happy with the care and day that you provide to Laila. I feel Laila loves the company of her doggy friends and activities that you provide to her. I expect she loves all the doggy treats too and I love the clean and calm environment that you provide.

As the time with your service continues, I feel that she has benefitted with her confidence around other dogs and when she is out walking she is more settled too. I have also taken on board advice you have given to me about off lead training too which was very helpful and it’s a work in progress at the moment with Laila.

I have recommended your service to other owners and hope that others will take you service up as it’s fantastic to know that Laila is safe, secure and enjoying her day with you and her friends. It’s important for others to know that your service is amazing, the dogs have a wonderful time and they are so well cared for by you.

Thank you for all the work and commitment that you put into the day with Laila and all the other dogs.

Jane about COCONUT:

Coconut - fiesty & fun! She is a Tomboy though, often covered in twigs & leaves! Chose this pic taken after one of the (many) regular showers she receives here.

Firstly, thank you so much for caring for my 2 year old cavoodle, Coconut, for 6 weeks while I was away. From the minute I dropped her off until the day I picked her up, I was relaxed and confident in the knowledge that she was in the best care available.

I so looked forward to your daily updates, photos, and videos and knew she was having as good a holiday as I was ... albeit without the champagne !

At the start of her stay I told you she had developed an annoying habit of barking at all sorts of noises and sights, which I was struggling to change. I was also concerned about her recall and wasn’t confident to let her off lead. However, since the training you provided during the time she was with you, I have seen a dramatic, positive difference in her behaviour.

In short, you've made my life with my beautiful dog so much easier and more enjoyable, and as I said if you ever decide to take Human guests at he Hound Dog Hotel ... I'll be your first customer !

Martene about BRODIE:

Beaglier, all round live wire and bundle of energy, Brodie

Brodie had a fabulous time at the Hound Dog Hotel with her other fur friends holidaying too.

And it was really lovely to get the daily updates to see what fun adventures she’d been on. Brodie is always happy to meet new friends and so the daily outings were perfect for her.

We are really grateful for taking special care of our fur kid and would highly recommend the Hound Dog Hotel for their professional and personal care.

Thanks again, Brodie looks forward to her next stay with you.

Dale about SHADOW:

Shadow is a sweet and shy Kelpie Cross who loves her outings

Your care was exceptional and I like that you took the time to meet with us before so that we could see where Shadow would be staying and your home is perfectly set up for personalised care, with good indoor and outdoor areas for Shadow.

Shadow loved having doggy friends that she could interact with while we were away. I was happy that you only allow a maximum of 3 dogs at a time as this is a perfect number to provide individual attention to each dog. She did not have a chance to miss us.

Meeting her at the beach prior to our leaving was also a good idea as it gave Shadow and you a better chance to get to know each other, and to observe her usual habits.

Loved receiving your daily updates on how she was going. In short, I could not fault the excellent service you provided for us. It is great to know we are able to go away and leave Shadow in such capable care.

Fiona about LEXI & BAXTER:

Kelpie & Old English Sheep Dog Lexi & Baxter - inseparable soul mates

Baxter and Lexi had a fabulous time during their week long stay with Gail at the Hound Dog Hotel. They both seemed to be very happy pups with plenty of attention from the lovely Gail.

The updates whilst we were away was just lovely, lots of photos, emails and texts. They seemed to enjoy the company of the other dogs that they shared their time with too. Baxter is often an anxious dog but he seemed very calm and relaxed during his stay. Gail was also quick to pick up that Baxter had a tummy bug and took him straight to the vet where he got antibiotics.

The overall care of our dogs was above and beyond. We have previously used kennels but there is just no comparison. Gail offered the dogs a home away from home. The attention, love and hugs they both received whilst in her care was just wonderful. Thank you - you will definitely be seeing our pups again.
